lawn and garden

Here is the garden, for those who have heard about it. This is right off our little back-porchy thing. Any critters that come by for my t'maters are gonna get a Pomeranian thrown at them. Shelly has worked the dirt over, those are other people's plots on either side of it. If stuff grows there will be more pics to come. If it fails, don't ask about it, OK?

Pretty Cool flowers in the yard.
Ahh... thats a good use of dem flowers... Is that a booger on the table?

Coming soon our own Tour de France (or however you say it). Heres a lovely clip of Shelly eating pizza with snails on it. She’s gross.

shelly makes awesome pies

Oh. Yes. Shelly makes a mean rhubarb pie these days. And I get to eat 'em! Today is her b-day folks. I am so happy to have her... and her pies. We're somewhere in France right now celebrating!

Cheese fondue season is pretty much officially over... but I dont think that will stop us. Since its a warm hearty meal, typically its eaten during the winter months. But we love it. We do one just about every week, although sometimes it gets subbed out for a different Swiss cheese meal, called Raclette.
Here is Shelly working her magic agian, this time I believe was Pork Chops, in a tangy leftover-from-the-pie rhubarb sauce. awesome.

cornhole! well... not yet.

The weather was killer. So we took advantage of it and got our cornhole sets made! 3 sets in total. Now I have to get my wife to make the bags...

Brothers Michael (left) and Christoph, our dear friends. Michael was in town from China, and he was pretty amused by our antics.

Im putting the 'hole' in 'cornhole'

We did most of the work outside. This is at Christophs Grandma's. Dig the awesome old Jeep in the backround.
Put your safety glasses on dude.
Well heres one. We still need bags. Right now they are painted white but needing another coat. Shelly's been working on that. Then maybe we'll paint some kind of graphics on them, but that will be quite a bit of work. Stay tuned for the final product/tournament!

bielersee.

Biel is a solid 8 minute train ride from Lyss, and its a pretty rockin' town. The Lake of Biel (Bielersee) is just a stroll from the train station, and a great place to hang on a lovely day like this one.

Me and my girl having some wine. Then this guy showed up and started following us around. We were cursing his owner under our breath before we realised that the lady we saw him walking with was just someone else he'd been following. I had pretty much given up and come to terms with the idea he was coming home with us when he decided to stalk a large bearded man with two mutts.
He was cute! but annoying. like Elmo.

Roo was totally digging the birds. How much of this blog is about our dog?
You can barely see me on the bridge. While Shelly was taking the picture, I was pretending to pee off of it, but she didn't notice so it wasn't funny. Here's the normal 'I'm on a bridge version':
There is a youth hostel near the lake... which is not of interest to us because we live 8 minutes away. Oh wait! They brew their own beer there!!! As seen in figure A., its a popular place during fine weather.

Easter away from home!

We met a nice American couple, Dorene and Brent, that also lives in Lyss. They invited us over to have Easter with them and one of their other American friends / co-worker. Dorene made us some awesome American hamburgers, french fries, pasta salad ... the works! In the picture you will see Brent at the end of the table and his co-worker / friend, TK, across from me, and Dorene is behind the camera ... maybe next time. Everything was great and we all had a great Easter!

peeps!

So NO Easter would be Easter without PEEPS!!! Special thanx to Shell's dad for making sure we had 'em. We brought them to a little grill out at the Opposition, and Shelly shared with the Swiss the great American tradition of lighting these little dudes on FIRE! Apparently a lighter just wasn't exciting enough, so the blowtorch was brought out and the Peeps were crispier than ever!
Believe it, the Peeps were well enjoyed.... and they even went for seconds!

COMING SUMMER OF 2009....

Switzerland wont know what hit 'em!!!!!

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

So this post is like 1.5 weeks in the making. Continuing with the purchase of a used bike, we hit the road on Sunday to Aarburg, a pretty hip old town. On the way, along the rail tracks, is a little bit of country:

and a little bit of go kart racing!

I shot of the center of Aarburg. There is a cult society of dudes that buy up old American WWII leftovers and fix em up and go cruising on the weekends. Thats Awesome. The first time I ever encountered this there was a whole bunch of 'em and they were even wearing US uniforms. I was pretty pumped to speak to some good ole boys, and I was all like 'Hey guys whats up?' and they were all like 'äüä, was meinst du?'

This old lady's sporting a cool Ferrari. Actually it wasnt really hers, and its a good thing it wasn't mine. I would have punched her in the face for leaning on it.

Aarburgs rockin old bridge:

We went and hung out by the 'river' under the bridge. Roo was with us. How did she make it here?

Note the Chevy Truck. strange to see....
